Fraser Island here we come (Day 1)

Deb had arranged to get off work early on Wednesday, 25th July 2012, so the kids and I picked her up at 1pm, ready to head North along the M1 towards Brisbane and Rainbow Beach, where we were scheduled to stay at 'Debbies place', a nice little B&B.  We arrived in Rainbow beach about 6pm, to be met by Debbie.
We were shown to our room and quickly settled in with a few drinks to kick off the holiday, this was followed by hamburgers for dinner.  We watched the final of Australia's got talent and went to sleep, as it was an early 5am start in the morning.
The alarm went off and we all hit the ground running with excitment, that our Fraser Island Adventure was about to commence.
We met up with the other 'My Swaggers'at the local service station, where the bakery was doing a roaring trade, these included, DazNBec, Jetcrew, V8ute,Paul4Nat, Yogi & Boo Boo and few others

We headed out to Inskip point where we aired down to 18 psi, so we could drive over the sand.

We then made our way to the Manta Ray Barge, which was parked on the edge of the beach. It was a line up of camper trailers and other four wheel drives heading for Fraser island.
There were so many, we had to wait for the barge to return and collect us, in the mean time I took a few pics of the area.

When we got on board, it was a 10 minute cruise across the straight to Fraser Island. I snapped a pic of my girls.

On the way across, I could see the other My Swaggers waiting on the beach for us to arrive.  It looked cool from the barge.
We arrived on Fraser Island and pulled up behind the rest of the gang.
A few of us, Troy, Daz, Theo and I had the customary beer when you arrive on Fraser, this was about 7am. It went down nice.
We head north along the eastern beach of Fraser island, to Yurru Camp ground, which is between Cathedral Ceach and Dundaburra Camp Ground.  The area was narrow and we had to camp close together.  We camped with Symon & Monique (V8Ute), Jetcrew (Theo & Lara, Troy & Christina), DazNBec (Darren & Bec), Paul4Nat (Paul & Nat).  We were so close, the area was called Ramsey Street, from the Neighbours Series. It was lots of fun and laughs.

The other swaggers were spread up the beach as it was a narrow piece of beach, with not many suitable patches.

We all set up camp and got down to relaxing with a beer in our hand, or a wine, JD or what ever for the ladies. The weather was cool and a few poeple had brought a long a 'pig', which is an enclosed fire within a metal drum made out of an old gas 9kg gas bottle.

Back On the Road Again - Fraser Island

Its been well over 12 months since we had a long camping trip. This trip wont be as long as last years Cape York Adventure, but it will be full of Fraser Island Madness and frivolity. We are hooking up with the 'My Swag' forum group and spending 9 nights beach camping on the Eastern Beach of Fraser Island.

The plan is to camp between Cathedral Beach and Dundaburra. We are expecting at least 15 camper trailers, with over 50 people in attendance.

This will be our 8th trip to Fraser Island in 20 years. At one point there, we were going every two years. The last time we went was in 2008, with Steve and Viv Young and we camped at Dundaburra in tents. We have all moved on since then and straight into Camper Trailers.

It's been a while since we camped straight on the beach. Looking forward to it. We have the hot water shower all ready to go, the personal dunny, which we took to Cape York will gets it fair share of use.

We will be self sufficient in every aspect, whilst on the beach, but saying that, the hot water showers and loo's are only a short trip away, at the National Park camping area at Dundaburra.

I got the Camper trailer out last weekend and check all the main things. All is ready to go. Now, all we have to do is buy the food, refreshments, pack the fishing rods, clothes and we will be ready to go.
